So, where did Packard Bell laptops come from? It's a famous brand name, but did they always make laptops? Well, no, since the company was first founded in 1926, they were a bit early to hit the laptop market, instead making consumer radios. So, instead of Packard Bell laptops, you'd see Packard Bell radios, especially if you watched the classic TV show, Gilligan's Island, since it had one in it.
It was in 1986 when they first got into computers, but it would still be a while until we saw Packard Bell laptops on the market. However, they were one of the first companies to sell IBM-compatible PCs, taking on people like Compaq and, later, Gateway. And yes, Packard Bell laptops were on the front lines of any sales battle.
Nowadays, Packard Bell laptops come under the corporate umbrella of Acer, since Acer bought Packard Bell in 2008. Ironically, that means Packard Bell now sits alongside former rival Gateway, under the same corporate banner. It also means that with Packard Bell laptops, you get the same brilliant quality you get from Acer!
